Labor is the backbone of our economy and the soul of our community. From St. Thomas to St. John to St. Croix, the dedication of our workforce is what sustains these islands. Yet, for too long, the hard-working people of the Virgin Islands have been asked to do more with less, waiting on promises that are continually deferred.
The Donastorg and Nelson team believes that a government’s true priority is reflected in how it treats its workers. That is why we are committing to an inclusive vision that leaves no worker behind.
Whether you are a master of your craft protected by a collective bargaining agreement or an unrepresented public servant working diligently behind the scenes, your value is equal. We recognize that the dividing line isn’t who has a union card—it’s that all government employees deserve stability, respect, and fair compensation.
For years, the financial and administrative pillars meant to protect your livelihoods have been underfunded, bogged down, and unpredictable. We are drawing a line in the sand.
Justice delayed is justice denied. We recognize that too many of our public servants are left hanging in limbo, waiting for grievances and workplace disputes to be heard. The Donastorg/Nelson administration will focus on strengthening and empowering the Public Employees Relations Board (PERB). We will ensure PERB has the resources and mandates necessary to expedite the backlog of claims. Our workers deserve swift resolutions. By speeding up this process, we will establish a standard of decisive action and a shared fairness that guarantees every employee—union or non-union—has a voice that is heard and respected in a timely manner.
Our Commitment: Real Financial Stability
A promise is only as good as the funding behind it. We will not offer empty rhetoric; we will deliver structural solutions.
* Securing the Union Arbitration and Government Employees Increment Fund: We will focus on establishing new, consistent, and diversified revenue streams specifically dedicated to stabilizing this fund.
* Honoring What You Are Owed: By securing these revenue streams, we will finally fulfill our government’s commitments to meeting the step increments, retroactive pay, and arbitration awards that our workforce has rightfully earned.
* Equal Focus for All: We will ensure that wage adjustments and workplace protections extend equitably to both unionized and non-unionized personnel. If you serve the public, this territory will support you.
The time for stagnation and “wait-and-see” leadership is over. Our working force cannot afford to wait any longer.
The Donastorg and Nelson team is prepared to take decisive action. We are ready to rebuild trust, secure our financial foundations, reform our labor systems, and champion the dignity of all Virgin Islands labor.
